Generations of fishermen and ocean stewards here in Hawaiʻi have moved in harmony with this rhythm—studying the moon and its connection to the tides, to understand how it affects the life within. It’s more than just knowledge but a deep connection that flows through this way of life. When creating this piece, I looked to tell a story of connection, that the tides, ocean, and the moon, affects the behavior and life cycle throughout.  Everything is so interconnected. This understanding is a pulse that flows with our way of life. Sustainable ways of living is connected to our ancestors and how we walk in the world. Their deep understand and connection to the environment created a strong sustainable way of living, and I look to reference this in the way I continue to live and walk in this world. My hope is that through art, we can celebrate this way of life and inspire protection of our oceans, a space that has given such great abundance. To give back to this space is a blessing and flow of return.
